Tongwynlais Football Club ground,
Ironbridge Road,
Tongwynlais,
Cardiff,
CF15 7NG
OS grid ref: ST 1335 8171
Due to the narrow roads in Tongwynlais please do not try to drive to the start. Instead, park in Longwood Drive (off junction 32 on the M4) and walk under the motorway to the start area. Better still, take the train to Radyr station and walk.
Taking part in the C3P is an incredible achievement — and you can make it go even further by raising money for Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team. Setting up a JustGiving page is quick and simple using the link below.
If you raise more than £250, we’ll refund your entry fee as a thank you for your support. Once you’ve hit your target, just drop us an email with a link to your JustGiving page and we’ll take care of the rest. There are also prizes available for the top fund raisers from our sponsors.
Every pound you raise helps us train, equip and deploy our volunteer team so we can continue responding 24/7 to those who need us most.
Start times will be;
08:00 to 08:30 for the long route,
08:30 to 09:30 for the Short and Classic routes
09:30 to 10:00 for the Family route.
All entrants should aim to complete the route by 1830hrs. We will operate a sweeper system to ensure everyone is accounted for and gets around safely.
For the Long route there will be a cut off at the Caerphilly Mountain feed station (which is at 14.5km) of 4 hours after starting. This equates to 3.7km per hour and means you will be finishing the long course in approximately 10 hours. If you fail to make the cut off time we will divert you onto the classic route.
We are encouraging everyone to let the train or bus take the strain as parking in Tongwynlais is very limited. The nearest railway station is Radyr (a short and pleasant walk up the Taff Trail, beside the Taff). On Saturday 28th June between 0800hrs and 0900hrs there will be 8 trains arriving from Pontypridd and Valley Lines and 9 trains arriving from Cardiff. A similar number of trains runs per hour throughout the day. If you must come by car, then park on Longwood Drive off junction 32 of the M4, just beyond Asda
We are strongly discouraging anyone bringing their car into Tongwynlais. The roads are very narrow and can easily become congested. There is no parking at the start field other than for emergency vehicles. If you are arriving by car then please park on Longwood Drive, Forest Farm Industrial Estate, CF14 7YT (accessed via the Coryton Roundabout) and walk under the M4 on the Taff Trail (see map) and this will be sign posted. Alternatively you may be able to park in Radyr and Morganstown and access the start field via the bridge at Gelynis Farm (grid ref ST 1313 8162).
Toilet facilities will be available at the start area. There are also toilets in the Caerphilly Mountain Snack Bar (please buy an ice cream or cup of tea) and in the Maen Llwyd Inn in Rudry (again please be polite and buy a drink there).
There will be 4 feed stations along the routes. These will provide bananas, crisps, flapjack, sweets, water and electrolytes. Please advise us of any allergies before sampling and we will be able to show you ingredient lists to help you identify if the item is suitable for you. Please ensure you bring you own cup or water container as we will not be providing these. Please bring your own snacks and for the long route something more substantial. See the map below to see the position of the Feed Stations (FS).
